Seaweeds Salad or Guso

Guso are known to be delicious and very healthy as well. It is bright green color that looks like a leafless branch and also known as edible seaweed. This is a very easy salad recipe to prepare which contains high vitamins and minerals and a good source of protein.
There are so many options how you can dress this salad but for me, I choose to have it the traditional way which is blanching it first for a few minutes, then added with a mixture of vinegar, salt and a pinch of sugar as dressing. If you are preparing the salad before your meal, you can place the dressing on a separate bowl, just mix it on the seaweed when you are about to eat so that it will not become mushy.

When we are in a vacation with my family in my hometown, there will be no days in a week that I won’t be preparing this salad as side dish. We are really a fan of eating this together with whatever main dish prepared in the table. Guso is always available in the market and are sold affordable as well. Great healthy dish!
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup Guso
  • 5 tablespoons vinegar
  • 1 medium size onion, chopped
  • 1 small size ginger, cut into strips
  • 1 raw tomato, sliced
  • Sugar and salt, to taste
  • Juice of a calamansi (optional)
Procedure for Guso Salad:
Wash Guso properly. Boil about 1 ½ cup water. Take Guso and blanch for a few minutes. Drain and transfer to a bowl. Set aside. In preparing the dressing, mix-in everything of the ingredients from vinegar down to the sugar and salt, or calamansi if using. Add little amounts of ingredients if necessary, depending on your desired taste of your dressing. Mix well with the seaweed and serve.
